Partnerships in Knowledge Transfer evaluation in East Midlands Universities

Innovas Consulting has been appointed by EMIN Enterprise Solutions to carry out an evaluation of its Partnerships in Knowledge Transfer (PIKT) project, which has been part funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

The aim of the project is to develop a number of new partnerships, in which qualified graduates or postgraduates are placed into SMEs, supported by an experienced academic mentor from the host University, to deliver a project of strategic and significant value.

The project is modelled upon the existing national Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) programmes, funded via Innovate Now (formerly the Technology Strategy Board), and offers greater degrees of flexibility in relation to the types and lengths of placements. The project is being delivered via a partnership of three universities: De Montfort University; University of Leicester; and University of Lincoln.

The evaluation will examine the project rationale, delivery, impact and value for money. It will identify the additional impact generated by the graduates placed within these businesses, including ascertaining whether this has resulted in increased business innovation and competitiveness, as well as the impact on the graduates themselves (eg. skills, career prospects).

The work adds to Innovas’ extensive evaluation track record. Other recent assignments include an evaluation of the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP) financial skills project, evaluations of ERDF youth enterprise projects for both Welsh Government and Kirklees Council, and an evaluation of Welsh Government’s support for Intellectual Property commercialisation among universities, businesses and in the NHS.
