Innovas appointed by Welsh Government to carry out a review of IP commercialisation

The development and commercialisation of IP is an important aspect of the innovation process, which in turn is an important driver of economic competitiveness. In this context, Wales’ ability to develop its base of knowledge assets (in both the research base and business base) and exploit these commercially is crucial.

Innovas is leading a team of experts examining models of IP commercialisation in the Higher Education sector, the NHS and in the business base, in Wales and elsewhere.

The outcome of the work will be a series of recommendations for future models to maximise the economic benefit of IP commercialisation.

This is the second time that Innovas has worked for the A4B programme team, having previously carried out an evaluation of the Early Stage Development Fund, an initiative seeking to increase the number and the quality of potential commercial propositions generated by Higher Education and Further Education establishments in Wales.

The commission adds to Innovas’ extensive portfolio of work for the Welsh Government. Other recent assignments include a mapping study of the energy and environment sector in Wales, an analysis of entrepreneurial attitudes and behaviour as part of the Dynamo youth enterprise project and an evaluation of the Arwain Cymru 21st Century public sector leadership pilot.
